FAQs
Any questions you have will be answered during your initial consultation. But here are some common questions and answers below.
What are hormones? Is it safe to manipulate them?
The human body has dozens of hormones. Each exhibit different effects through the body and do important things like promote healing, regulate metabolism, induce sleep and wakefulness, and balancing electrolytes. You may be familiar with some such as insulin, estrogen, melatonin, epinephrine, cortisol testosterone, and thyroid. Each hormone is essential for your health and are influenced by how you live your life.
Is manipulating my hormones safe?
Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is the term used to describe medical management of our hormones. HRT is used in medicine all the time, in fact you’ve probably already done HRT. Have you ever taken melatonin, been on birth control, or taken a some steroid pills when your sick/injured? If so you’ve done HRT!
When done under the guidance of a trained medical professional HRT is very safe, but nothing in medicine is without risk. Some clinics prioritize money and ignore or hide these risks. At Rise you can be assured we will ALWAYS review the risks and benefits of every treatment and only prescribe things we know are safe for you. Because our priority is a long life of great health for you, not money.
Where do I get my labs drawn?
Labs will be drawn in our office by either Brett or our nurse, and are included in your monthly Men’s Health Membership cost.
How much will my labs cost?
Your Men’s Health Labs will be included in your membership fee.
If you would like to add on labs that were not ordered in your hormone panel, you may ask for them to be added for an additional fee. We have a contract with a lab that makes our lab pricing nearly impossible to beat!
What if I want to cancel my plan?
You can cancel at anytime with no questions asked or fees charged.
However, since we send our medications out as a 3-month supply, you will still be responsible for the remaining cost of that medication. No refunds will be given for medication already shipped.
How long do I have to use testosterone?
Testosterone replacement is often something that patients elect to be on for the rest of their lives. However, you may stop testosterone replacement therapy at any time that you choose. We will guide you with alternative methods to increase your testosterone levels if you decided that testosterone replacement therapy is no longer for you.
Why doesn't my doctor want to prescribe me these hormones?
There is much debate within the medical community on what is considered low testosterone. Most medical care providers are taught that if a males total testosterone is 300 ng/dL or higher then he does not have low testosterone, regardless of his symptoms.
But research and clinical experience has shown that there is a difference between being within normal range for a lab result, and being able to function optimally when your hormone levels are optomized.
Another large barrier for providers wanting to prescribe testosterone to their patients is that most insurances have decided that TRT for anyone whose testosterone is over 300 mg/dL will not be covered by insurance, so it is avoided as a treatment method.
Why can't I pay with my insurance?
Testosterone replacement is not considered medically necessary unless your level is below 300 ng/dL, and thus is often denied by insurance. To avoid the hassle of dealing with this we have chosen to not bill insurance for this program.
Why do I have to inject these medications?
When taken orally, testosterone can be hard on the liver and in rare cases cause liver damage. So to avoid this risk, testosterone is offered in just about every route except a pill.
This includes injections, topical cream, nasal spray, and troche (orally dissolving). Injections typically work better and are cheapest. Making injectable testosterone the preferred route.
Is Testosterone Replacement Therapy safe?
Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT)is considered safe and effective for many individuals when prescribed and monitored by a healthcare provider. However, as with any medical treatment, it carries potential risks and benefits.
Your health history will help indicate if you are not a good candidate for safe TRT, and your lab work will monitor for any potential side effects of the TRT.
